The story

Cameras by miniblank («كاميرا» by miniblank)

The rules of light, to wear.

Cameras by miniblank prints the rules film photographers work by, the way they read them: the Sunny 16 rule, the EV chart, white balance in Kelvin, darkroom times, the Zone System, f-stops at their true size. Each design is a working chart with its real numbers, on tees, hoodies, caps, a tote and posters.

A dark room and a small hole.

In Cairo, about a thousand years ago, Ibn al-Haytham wrote in his Book of Optics that light passing through a small hole into a dark room makes an image of the world outside on the far wall, upside down. Every camera since is that room, with a lens in the hole.

In 1545 Gemma Frisius printed the first picture of one: a dark room set up to watch the solar eclipse of 24 January 1544 at Louvain. That woodcut is on the back of the Dark room, 1544 hoodie.

15 designs, three lines.

Light, Darkroom and Optics; each design has its own page. Every design.

No camera or film maker’s name or logo is on any piece. The numbers are the design.
